Ribo Waring Pub Company "The system is very easy to use and support has been second to none." Tony Murphy, Founder and Managing Director of Ribo Waring Pub Company The Client After a lifetime spent in the pub trade, it’s no surprise that Tony Murphy wanted to be his own boss. A year ago, he bought the lease on his first pub, Masons’ Arms in Edgware, and has since acquired a further three: Station Hotel in Hither Green, Railway Tavern in Mill Hill and Halfway House in Bovingdon. Each represents the best traditions of the London suburb local pub and together they constitute the Ribo Waring Pub Company. Masons’ Arms sets the blueprint, based around a relaxed atmosphere with something to interest everyone. Sports enthusiasts watch major sporting events on the multiple TVs or make use of pool tables. Music fans enjoy state-of-the-art video jukeboxes and weekend disco nights. Plus there’s great food for all the family. “The system is very easy to use and support has been second to none.” Tony Murphy, founder and Managing Director of Ribo Waring Pub Company The Solution The Challenge All the pubs which Ribo Waring has acquired are owned by the Spirit Group and came equipped with their own tills. A previous working relationship between one of Tony Murphy’s partners and system integrator Hospitality Tills encouraged Tony and the team to improve their point-of-sale systems, at both a hardware and software level. For a new business, cost of ownership was a key motivator, plus any system installed had to be fast to train and easy to use by permanent and casual staff. System resilience and reliability were also critical factors as Ribo Waring anticipated, and are now enjoying, very busy trading in all their pubs. The Benefits * The business, front-office and back-office, is run from a single computer system * Using the latest technology creates the aura of a professional business * Staff find the system very easy to learn and fast to navigate around * Enabling customers to see what’s being entered into the tills makes the business transparent * All the new system’s features add up to slick customer service * Reliability and system resilience mean even the busiest trading times can be catered for with confidence * The support from Hospitality Tills and J2 is described as “outstanding” The Process Hospitality Tills have installed a package of hardware and software that fits the bill for Ribo Waring. Ten of J2’s latest 560 touchscreens have been installed across the four premises, each providing specialist front-office and back-office software designed with the pub trade in mind. The tills have a small footprint and sit discreetly on the bars. Ribo Waring has opted for the largest display screens and makes a virtue out of staff and customers being able to see items being entered into the tills. Installation and training were completed quickly and without a hitch and Tony Murphy pays tribute to the quality of service he has since received from Hospitality Tills and J2. “Support has been second to none.” The Results The software puts every needed function at the touch of a button. Sales history is immediately visible, and prices and products can be easily changed or added. The ability to increase the print size of on-screen items and to scan in product labels as keys makes for instant recognition at busy times. This translates into slick bar service and happy customers. “Everything is immediate,” says Tony Murphy. “It’s very easy to use and any problems are quickly resolved.” The Future Tony Murphy’s ambitions don’t stop there. He has set his sights on building a 10-strong group over the next few years. “I have a lot of faith in the systems and in the people who support them. I will be putting the same systems into my new pubs as they come on stream.” www.ribowaringpubcompany.com Partners About J2 Retail Systems J2 Retail Systems is a specialist manufacturer of PC-based touchscreens, LCD touchscreen monitors and point-of-sale hardware to the retail, hospitality and leisure industries.
